Tulum, Q.R. — Another 1,000-plus-room hotel has been given the green light by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) after they approved the environmental request for the construction of the Tulum International Hotel.

The hotel, which is being constructed by the companies Calvia Balear México, S.A. de C.V. and Arotesa Playa, S.A. de C.V., was given the go-ahead by la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Semarnat) to begin building the 1,089-room hotel on the western side of the Federal 307 highway.

The Tulum International Hotel is set for construction in an area outside Tulum known as Ganadera Tankah III. With the approval for construction comes developer approval for a change of land use on 9.9 hectares of forest.

Cibanco is financing the $139 million USD project. The completed hotel will consist of restaurants, swimming pools, bars, kids club, lobby and parking as well as roads, a staff area, service areas and green space.

The hotel complex will be divided into nine three-level buildings with a height of 9.5 meters and consist of 116,579 square meters or 10.5 percent of the property, while the rest will remain as a green area.
